Impact and Importance
The Nation’s Youth Council plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our community. By empowering our youth, they ensure that the next generation of leaders are prepared to address challenges, uphold cultural values, and work toward a sustainable and equitable future. This Youth Council not only provides a sense of identity and belonging for younger members, but also fosters intergenerational connections by working alongside each other to make a lasting impact.
The Youth Council will build capacity and develop skills and leadership among our young ones. By giving the youth a platform to voice their ideas and participate in decision-making, this Council will foster confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of independence and agency among our young people.
With so many ideas and goals, the Youth Council will balance ambition with tradition. The youth will have opportunity to meet with our Elders and Elected Chief and Council to learn about our culture and language. This ensures a future generation with strong connection to our heritage and identity while also handing down traditional knowledge and practices.
By focusing on issues important to the youth, the Youth Council’s work will create opportunities to improve quality of life for youth on-reserve.
