Society's
Goals

The primary task of our Society is to serve the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations members.  Our top priority is the safety and well-being of children.

In 2024, the Aux’stila du gingananam, our child and family protection and support law, is currently under review and in draft.

After reaching an historic coordination agreement with British Columbia and Canada, Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations is one step closer to holding full jurisdiction over child welfare for the community.

The Nation will hold a ground blessing of the new youth transition home as well as a ground blessing for office space at what we call the Grey Building within the boundaries of the District of Port Hardy

What we have achieved so far

Renovations are underway for the new office space at the North Island Mall. Renovations are expected to be complete by January 2025, when the Galgapothla Society will be fully operational.

The team is currently building foundational pieces to day-to-day business, including policies, hiring, establishing community partner connections, building out a budget with respect to programming, and working together with the Nation for capital needs.
